On Wednesday 29 May 2019, Global Human Rights Defence (GHRD) welcomed students from Tecnológico de Monterrey, Mexico to our head office in the Hague for an educational seminar.
The students were given a detailed insight into our work during a presentation by our Head Human Rights Officer. It covered information regarding the important issues that GHRD focuses on, such as protection of religious minorities, empowerment, human rights monitoring and investigation, lobbying and advocacy.
Afterwards, one of our interns gave a presentation about the integration of Hindu Rohingya women in Bangladesh. The Rohingya Hindu community is a religious minority in Myanmar. Our intern facilitated an interactive discussion with the Mexican students around issues that are faced regarding integration.
The discussion centered on the topic of integration in both Bangladesh and Mexico. The students were invited to talk about their home experiences concerning integration in Mexico. Furthermore they talked about their working experiences in the field of migration and integration in Mexico, and in general what could be possible solutions for globalized integration questions, especially in Mexico and Bangladesh.
The exchange with these students from Mexico was very informative for both sides and we would like to thank them for coming to visit us. We will be welcoming more students from around the world to our office in the coming weeks, and we look forward to talking with these future advocates of human rights and minority rights.
