Global Human Rights Defence (GHRD) is looking for interns to join the team of (human rights) researchers whose work is focused on the geographical
area of East Asia which covers China (including Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau), Mongolia, Japan, and the Koreas.


As an intern at GHRD, you will contribute to the advancement and protection of human rights.
Your work is primarily focused on the human rights violations against minorities or marginalized groups in the East Asian countries.

Your Work:


As an intern, you will be part of a diverse team and work under a
supervisor. Your tasks will include, but are not limited to:

  • Conducting (legal) research on the human rights violations that occur in these areas;
  • Write daily news articles, research articles, and reports, and;
  • Monitor international and domestic human rights legislation and
    its developments;

Your qualifications:


  • You have a degree, or are currently pursuing a good academic record in a relevant field to this work;
  • You are fluent in English;
  • You have excellent writing, researching, and communication skills;
  • You have a solid knowledge of international human rights law;
  • You are flexible, creative, and adaptable;
  • You are driven and highly motivated;
  • You are attending to details and diligent, and
  • You have a deep passion for human rights, researching, and
    writing;
  • Previous experience is not required but can be considered
    an important asset.

Global Human Rights Defence (GHRD) is looking for interns to join our Southeast Asia & Pacific Team from September this year.


Global Human Rights Defence is an UN ECOSOC NGO based in The Hague, the Netherlands, which is focused on actively promoting and protecting
human rights of minorities and marginalized groups in order to enhance their socio-economic status. Through our new TV channel, GHRTV, we hope to make this real.


As a potential GHRD intern, you will contribute to the advancement, protection and promotion of human rights. You will be responsible for
monitoring and reporting human rights violations taking place in the Southeast A


Your Work:


You will be part of a team assigned to a supervisor, and your role can include the following tasks:

  • Conducting legal and non-legal research on the human rights developments in the Southeast Asia & Pacific region
  • Monitoring relevant human rights legislation of countries in question
  • Writing articles and reports
  • Conducting interviews
  • Creating content for short documentaries.

Our requirements:


  • You have a degree with a good academic record which is relevant to this field of work
  • You are fluent in English. Moreover, knowledge of any other European languages will be considered as an advantage
  • You have a decent writing, research and communication skills
  • Interest and / or knowledge concerning international human rights law is a plus
  • You are flexible and adaptable
  • You are driven and highly motivated
  • You are attentive to details and diligent
  • You are friendly and able to be a cooperative team member
  • Previous experience is not required but is a plus
  • You are preferably based in the Netherlands, however, please feel free to apply if you are based somewhere else as this internship can be conducted remotely.
