Freedom of Speech in Bangladesh

Freedom of expression is a fundamental pillar of democracy, allowing everyone to participate in public affairs. It is recognized at international and national levels, including in international human rights instruments and domestic constitutions. Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) states that everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression, and this is reiterated in the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR). In Bangladesh, the Constitution of the People's Republic of Bangladesh aims to build a socialist society based on democratic values, ensuring the rule of law and respect for fundamental human rights. However, religion and media owners' influence on journalists hinder the full realization of freedom of expression. The Bangladeshi government's tendency to suppress dissent on social media also violates people's right to information. International organizations and human rights institutions should focus on promoting freedom of expression on social platforms.

Pakistan Report on Sexual Assault and Murder

Pakistan's Constitution allows freedom of religion for minority groups, but the country has a poor record of safeguarding these rights. Attacks on minorities include targeted violence, abduction, conversion to Islam, and extrajudicial killings. Media groups have voiced concerns about hostility towards religious minorities on social media and closing spaces for dissent online. Female journalists are increasingly targeted online, with severe offline consequences. Forced conversions have become a privileged tool against Christians and Hindus, with girls being abducted, forcibly married, and converted to Islam. Blasphemy is also used to settle personal conflicts and target minorities. Transgenders are subjected to humiliation and violence by the conservative Pakistani community. Child abuse is a global problem, with at least 1,489 children subjected to sexual assault in Pakistan in the first half of the year.

Human Rights Violations in Malaysia

Malaysia, a multicultural country with diverse religions, ethnicities, and refugees, predominantly consists of the Bumiputra's, also known as ''sons of the land''. Despite Malaysia's democratic ideals, such as equality, freedom of speech, and justice, ethnic rights violations against these minorities persist. Hate speech against minorities and migrant refugees, particularly the Rohingya refugees, is common. Migrant workers face labor abuses, enforced disappearances, and human rights violations including violence, LGBTQ abuse, media restrictions, child labor, and human trafficking. The Malaysian government must work to protect the rights of all citizens, including minorities, migrants, women, transgender people, and refugees.

Turkey Report

Turkey is facing a growing human rights crisis, with a decline in the rule of law and democracy, and institutional racism against non-Muslims and ethnic minorities. The country's protection of minority groups falls short of international standards, as exemplified by the policy of Turkification, which fails to recognize individuals' rights to ethnic, national, and religious identification. This practice violates international standards for minority rights, including religious freedom, speech, political participation, and discrimination. Turkey has also violated human rights, including the mistreatment of Kurds, water supply cuts, and the conviction of freelance journalists.
