The LGBTQIA+ community’s rights in the European framework are influenced by various factors, including rising hate speech, anti-LGBTQIA+ rhetoric, and political instability. This has led to violent incidents and persecutions, forcing LGBTQIA+ people to flee persecutions. Despite this, national human rights institutions and courthouses are working to protect and promote LGBTQIA+ rights. In 2021, the European Parliament declared the EU an “LGBTIQ Freedom Zone” and denounced all forms of violence or discrimination against persons based on their sex or sexual orientation. However, Hungary’s regressive behavior against LGBTQIA+ rights has worsened conditions, with the Hungarian National Parliament adopting constitutional amendments that further restrain the rights of the LGBTQIA+ community. This report aims to analyze the current European framework of LGBTQIA+ rights, their state, and implementation in EU and non-EU countries, sharing national regulations, best practices, and experiences to ensure inclusivity and equality for the LGBTQIA+ community.
