Mexico has a diverse Indigenous population of 16,933,283, representing 15.1% of all Mexicans. Despite their diversity, they face political, social, and cultural oppression, living in marginalized conditions. They are not recognized as subjects of law or citizens, and face structural discrimination due to their low economic position, education, or culture. Issues include lands, terror, autonomy, self-determination, political participation, access to justice, violence, and the right to development.
