
During this online panel, the GHRD will discuss the right to self-determination. The panel provides a forum for diverse panellists from all over the globe, who will address questions such as: What does the right to self-determination entail? What kind of impact does the right of self-determination have on indigenous communities? What steps should be taken by internal and external factors to strengthen this right? While the main focus lies on the indigenous communities of the Amazon, the panel will also touch upon indigenous communities in other geographical areas and their right to self-determination.

In this online panel, GHRD will discuss the current impact of AI technology on Human Rights , and whether or not tech companies that produce these softwares can be held responsible for the violations resulted from them.
Our panelists include:
Yassin Osman: Yassin is a Programme Lawyer with the International Bar Association’s Human Rights Institute, where focuses on human rights issues in the Africa and Middle East region, as well as digital rights. He graduated with a First-Class Honours from the Irish Centre for Human Rights, at the National University of Ireland, Galway, completing a Master’s in International Human Rights Law. His research, titled Digital Apartheid, focused on internet shutdowns, their capacity to lead to political suppression and marginalisation of minorities, and its impact on the human rights framework, particularly the right to freedom of expression and assembly.
Maria Pia Sacco:
Maria Pia is a Senior Project Lawyer with the Legal Policy & Research Unit. As Senior Project Lawyer, she is responsible for the IBA legal projects in the area of corporate and professional integrity, including anti-corruption and business and human rights. She is currently leading the IBA Working Group on AI and Human Rights, contributing to the work of the Council of Europe Ad Hoc Commission on Artificial Intelligence. Maria Pia graduated cum laude from L.U.I.S.S. University in Rome and completed a Master in Law and Economics from Bologna University, Hamburg University and the Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research in Mumbai. Maria Pia is completing a Ph.D. in Law and Economics at the Rotterdam Institute of Law and Economics.
