Climate change – Increasing temperatures, melting icecaps, changes in weather patterns, drought – has become a global issue. The consequences are clearly noticeable and palpable.
Global warming due to the greenhouse effect as a result of industrialization, to be exact, along with the consuming nature of society are to blame for this; therefore, climate change affects every single one of us. Our greatest responsibility, as industrialized nations, is to resolve the issue together. One solution is to protect the tropical rainforest and a striking example is the Amazon, known as the lungs of the earth, therefore vital for the existence of all life.
Since the beginning of mankind, we, the indigenous people have been living harmoniously with nature. We have the knowledge and wisdom to maintain balance between man and mother nature. We are the protectors and guardians of the rainforest that is essential to earth.
The bitter conclusion that must be drawn is that we, the indigenous people, must fall victim to the consuming nature of society where our culture, traditions, and social way of life are suffering greatly as well as the destruction of the world’s essential rainforest.
If a solution is to be found for this issue, transfer of knowledge must occur between the industrialized nations and us, the indigenous people. The industrialized countries with their technical know-how and we, with our knowledge of how to treat nature responsibly and respectfully, must collaborate. Together we can create a healthy and livable earth for generations to come. The time for action is now!
