Pakistan ranks fourth globally in air pollution, with 99% of its population living in areas with pollution levels exceeding its own standards. The two most populous cities, Karachi and Lahore, are among the worst for air quality. The rising pollution levels lead to health issues such as ischemic heart disease, stroke, lung cancer, and other diseases. The International Growth Center (IGC) states that Pakistan’s pollution affects health and poverty, particularly in impoverished households. Insufficient dietary intake and inadequate sanitation contribute to malnutrition in children. The report aims to explore domestic and foreign factors contributing to the pollution crisis and recommends measures for government, NGOs, and industry to prevent further environmental damage.
