The 21st century has seen a shift in information creation, transmission, and consumption, with social media playing a crucial role in democratization in Pakistan. With 36.5% of the population using the internet and 71.70 million active on social media, it has been a platform for citizens to express opinions, engage in political dialogue, and promote human rights. However, social media has also been linked to human rights violations, with government regulations like the Prevention of Cybercrime Act (PECA) posing a roadblock to civil liberties. The absence of strong cybersecurity measures and the rise of technology has made social media vulnerable to attacks and fake news.
